Voronezh Animation Studio presents new heroes of Russian animation
On July 8, Voronezh Animation Studio presented its new animated series, tentatively titled The Steel Family, at the ‘Cinema and Television’ platform during the third ‘Russian Creative Week’ forum. The project was introduced by General Producer Vladimir Nikolaev and screenwriter Aleksey Zamyslov.
The animated series ‘The Steel Family’ was a winner in the competition for socially significant content, organized by the Institute for the Development of the Internet as part of the national project ‘Culture’. The story follows a fifteen-year-old schoolboy who is a passionate fan of space exploration and robotics. By chance, he discovers a source of incredible energy, which becomes the target of the head of a powerful international corporation. Together with his two sisters — a twelve-year-old video blogger and a seven-year-old animal pet lover — the boy must learn to harness the artifact’s energy to create extraordinary technological wonders, transforming them into superheroes.
The family is sent on a deadly mission from Moscow to Siberia to a scientific base hidden deep in the taiga, where a super vaccine for all of diseases is being developed to stand against the far superior corporation.
Vladimir Nikolaev, General Producer of the studio, stated:
"It must be acknowledged that Russian animation lacks content for teenage audiences. There are neither full-length animated films nor series targeting this group. Unlike children's content, teenage-oriented projects are harder to monetize and are often considered as less attractive for investment. At the same time, we’ve all witnessed that superhero movies have firmly established themselves as a separate genre. Superheroes have become immensely popular and deeply ingrained in global culture. However, they predominantly represent American culture, promoting Western lifestyle, values and ideas. When developing this project, our primary goal was to create a Russian superhero who embodies a cultural code familiar to our audience, communicates in the language of teenagers, and instills essential moral values."
The series will consist of 11 episodes, each 22 minutes long, and is scheduled for digital release by the end of 2023.
